Kind Words

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

I remember learning this phrase at quite a young age. Can we all just agree – this quote is a bunch of hooey! Words are important. Words are powerful. I believe the underlying intention of this phrase was to remind the individual (who happened to just be offended by hurtful words) that they don’t need to take empty, meaningless words to heart, when they were only meant to bring them down. I can get on board with that. Now if you weren’t aware, throwing sticks and stones at one another is, well… illegal! And the unfortunate thing is that sometimes we use words as our greatest weapon. But the positive: our kind words can be love & medicine to build each other up!

Here’s just one of the many things that Proverbs has to say about words…

Gracious Words

I was reminded this week of the power of kind words. One of my clients sent kind words my way and it truly lifted me up. I still get warm fuzzies thinking about it while typing this. Kind words that I hadn’t asked for. Kind words sent out of gratitude and a warm heart.

Let’s celebrate the power of words!  And let’s make a pact to use kind words. Words that lift others up. Personal confession: I’m going to mess up. I’m going to say things that I regret. But, I pray that I will then use my words to ask for forgiveness. And start fresh every new day to practice the power of kind words.

Kind words to my readers: I feel like I say “thank you for reading” all the time. I hope you know how much I truly mean it every time that I say it. The fact that you took time out of your day to read my words – fills my heart with such gratitude. I would love to get to know you – so if you ever want to comment, like my Facebook page, send me an e-mail, or see me around town – please say hi & keep in touch! The web is a place that can be used for good – and I love the ability that it gives us to connect to each other.

Kind People

Kind words to my clients: Bah! You are the coolest. You are the reason I get to do what I love every day. I cherish the relationships we build, and your ability to trust me with your dwelling. Thank you for inviting me into your home, and letting me help you. It truly is one of my greatest blessings.

In honor of Father’s Day… Kind words to my dad: I love you. Thank you for being a strong enough man to raise a daughter with a sensitive heart. Thank you for being the rock and provider for our family. Thank you for loving mom. And thank you for scheming & completing projects with me. You truly are the best.

The Older I Get

Kind words to my heavenly Father: Thank you for blessing me beyond imagination. Thank you for calling me by name. Thank you for loving me, when I have done nothing to deserve it.
